Workout 24/7 is independently owned. Two gyms — one in Wells, one in Osakis — and no corporate office anywhere. The people who own it live in these towns.

The keycard model is the whole idea. A staffed front desk in a town this size means short hours and a price that has to cover somebody sitting there. Handing every member a key instead means the building is useful at 4 a.m., and the monthly rate stays where a working family can live with it.

What we spend money on is the floor: equipment that works, a clean space, lights and heat that hold up through a Minnesota winter. If a machine goes down, tell us and it gets fixed. That's the arrangement.
